Novotel Wollongog Northbeach has long been known for excellence in service, amenities and our spectacular location. Few people realise that looking after the environment is as important to Novotel Wollongong Northbeach as looking after our guests! We take great pride in the programs we have
introduced to redue our usuage of water, electricity and landfill.

Since 1998 the hotel has achieved the following results:

* Reduction in electricity consumption by 1,000,000Kwh or 22% annum
* Reduction in water consumption by 39 million litres or 52% per annum
* Reduction in waste to landfill by 103 tonnes or 48% per annum

* Over 450kg of food from Windjammers Restaurant is donated to Oz Harvest each year to feed the disadvantaged
* Over 30 tonnes of organic waste is sent to an off site worm farm each year
* The hotel recycles paper, cardboard, polystyrene boxes, paint, solvents, e-waste and cooking oil.
* All non-essential airconditioning is switched off over the winter months
* Old sheets & towels are used as bin liners and rags
* The hotel owns two 3,000 litre rain tanks which capture water to fill the swimming pool and irrigation system
* The hotel features twenty-five waterless urinals
* Novotel Wollongong Northbeach employees each have their sustainability responsibilities outlined in their job descriptions
* Theiss sponsor the 'Green Idea of the Year' award presented to the staff member who implements the most innovation sustainable action.
* In 2009 the mid-year staff party had the theme 'Reuse or Recycle'
* The hotel participates annually in Earth Hour, lighting the Lobby and Windjammers Restaurant with tea lights.
